PSS®E Models for Advanced Pumped Storage Hydro Units:

Several dynamic Simulation models have been developed for advanced pumped storage hydro units for use in PSS®E. The model dlls for PSS®E versions 33 and 34, as well as detailed documentation for these models can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.


EX21BR: Model to represent GE EX2000, EX2100 and EX2100e excitation systems

The EX2000 model in the PSS®E library is used to represent the GE EX200, EX2100 and Ex2100e excitation systems.  However, the field current limiter (overexcitation limiter) reset action modeled in the PSS®E EX2000 exciter model is based on the information that was provided when the model was first written and is not how the actual equipment works.  Specifically, once the Latch 2 gate in the field current limiter portion of the model is set, it will never reset, even if the field current falls below the value IFDREF2. For situations that do not involve action of overexcitation limiters (OEL) (i.e., ICON(M)=0), the existing EX2000 model can be used without any issue, or the EX2000 model may be replaced with the AC7B model from the IEEE 421.5 standard.  However, if it is necessary to represent OEL action of an EX2000, EX2100 or EX2100e excitation system in a PSS®E simulation, the EX21BR model may be downloaded for PSS®E version 32. For model dll for PSS®E version 33, please contact Dan Leonard (email address given below). Although the model is being supplied by PTI, any user support for this model would need to be sought from Dan Leonard  (daniel1.leonard@ge.com) at General Electric (GE).

To use the exuel_p32.dll, after opening PSSE, go to Tools>Load Model library and select this dll. This operation can be recorded in a python or idv automation script.


To use the ex21br_v2_p32.dll, after opening PSSE, go to Tools>Load Model library and select this dll. This operation can be recorded in a python or idv automation script.


To use ex21al_v0_p32.dll, after opening PSSE, go to Tools>Load Model library and select this dll. This operation can be recorded in a python or idv automation script.


To use the exoel_v1_p32.dll, after opening PSSE, go to Tools>Load Model library and select this dll. This operation can be recorded in a python or idv automation script.
