Medium Voltage Liquid–filled Transformers

Medium-Voltage Liquid–filled transformers are available that use Mineral Oil, Silicone, or Envirotemp FR3 dielectric fluid. They are available in standard substation or padmount designs. They can also be provided as Siemens Unit Substation that utilizes close-coupled Low Voltage Switch Gear or Switchboards. They are available for either indoor or outdoor installations.

Features and Benefits

Mineral Oil - these transformers use a high grade mineral oil that acts as an insulating fluid and coolant all at the same time. Mineral oil has been used for nearly a hundred years in transformers and has a long history of reliability. They are available with enclosed side wall mounted bushings for connections to primary and/or secondary switchgear or in padmount style configurations. Silicone - these transformers have all the same design features of mineral oil units but use a silicone insulating fluid that is categorized as a less flammable liquid. They are available in substation configurations with enclosed side wall mounted bushings for connections to primary and/or secondary switchgear or in padmount style configurations. Envirotemp FR3 - These transformers have all the same design features of mineral oil & silicone units but use Cooper Power Systems patented Envirotemp FR3 fluid that is a bio-degradable vegetable based insulating fluid which is considered environmental friendly and is also categorized as a less flammable liquid. They are available with enclosed side wall mounted bushings for connections to primary and/or secondary switchgear. Electrical codes recognize the advantages of using Envirotemp FR3 fluid in both indoors and outdoors for fire sensitive applications. Envirotemp FR3 fluid-filled units meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Section 450.23, 2008 NEC requirements.
